Children love music. You might hear them humming a line of one of their favorite songs to themselves while playing with their favorite toy or they might even turn their plate and cup into a set up drums at the dinner table. Music is with children from the beginning.
There’s always a certain amount of music that children are exposed to through their shows or through the timeless songs used to learn concepts like the A,B,C’s. However, as a parent, you might notice what seems like your child taking a special interest in music and you begin wondering, “when should my child begin music lessons?” Choosing the right place to start your child out in music lessons can be very exciting and somewhat daunting, especially if this is completely new to your family. There are many questions that may come up such as “should I start with private lessons on an instrument?” or “Is piano the best place to begin for my child?” or even “what if my child starts lessons and then wants to quit?” When you find yourself asking these questions, consider enrolling your child into a general music class. A general music class is the perfect opportunity for your child to be introduced to all types of music that is taught in such a way that it appeals to all types of learners. These classes can be less formal than private lessons and the overall expectation of the class is based more on experiential-based learning. The purpose of a general music class is to introduce fundamental musical skills that will provide a foundation for all future music learning. These skills can include matching pitch through singing and moving to the beat within a style of music. General music is perfect for children who take an interest in music but aren’t sure exactly which path to take, be it singing in a choir or taking lessons for piano or guitar. The general music classroom will provide the opportunity for your child to explore musical concepts through singing games, musical movement, and rhythm concepts with percussion instruments. As your child goes through the general music lessons, it will likely become more evident to which musical path your child should take once the class is completed. So at this point, you’ve noticed that your child has taken a special interest in music and you’ve decided that you’d like to introduce your child to different musical concepts in general music class. Now what? Contact Vivace Music. In our classes we chant, we clap, we sing, we tap, sway, hop, and count. We believe children learn by doing. The strategies used in our classes are taught in such a way that they explore musical building blocks, different styles of music from all over the world, and are shaped in such a way that the lesson is appropriate for all learning styles and ages.
